Blog Archive B-School Chart of the Week October 2013 Social Currency Ranking

Blog Archive B-School Chart of the Week October 2013 Social Currency Ranking Rankings come in all shapes and sizes, but can any ranking truly capture social cachet?  For a different perspective on the value of an MBA, we turn to the  New York Times  society pages, where the editors select and profile promising couples. Each month, we dedicate one B-School Chart of the Week to tallying how alumni from top-ranked business schools are advancing their social currency ranking. Approximately 26 of the 145 New York Times wedding announcements in October mentioned an MBA student or alumni. The month was particularly auspicious for the social currency of New York CityĆ¢€"based MBAs. Six NYU Stern alumni were highlighted in the announcements, including alumna Anne Becker, who married Randy Wolfe, an alumnus of Columbia Business School. Eric Grey, another Stern graduate, tied the knot with Erica White, who is studying for her MBA at Fordham. One Stern alumna, Kanan Bhatt, however, ventured further afield, marrying Stanford GSB alumnus Ravi Shah. Other New York business school mentions included a number of newlywed CBS grads: alumnus Lawrence Raiman, who is the founder and CEO of LDR Capital Management, married Deborah Clayman, the president of the Clayman Family Foundation; alumnus Avi Gelboim, founder of Scher Capital Management, married Meredith Horn, the National Jewelry InstituteĆ¢€™s exhibition manager; and alumnus Nitin Walia, director for strategic client services at Rapid Ratings, married Jennifer Chudy, who is a PhD candidate in American politics at the University of Michigan. With a total of approximately 1,160 wedding announcements since January, our year-to-date total of MBA mentions hits 241 this month. Share ThisTweet B-School Charts
